Forecast: A fall heat wave approaches

Covering the period from September 16 to 25, 2019

The first half of last week’s forecast played out pretty well; we did see rain move through early in the week, followed by a second system on Thursday and Friday. What didn’t pan out were the milder temperatures with the second system. Lucky for us, the weather models didn’t do quite as well for the

Forecast: More chances for rain

Covering the period from September 9 to 18, 2019

While the weather models were able to predict the fairly active weather pattern that brought several rounds of showers, thundershowers and just general light rains over the last week or two, they did struggle with the timing of the systems and the temperatures. It looks like this forecast period is going to continue on the

Forecast: A couple of chances for precipitation

The weather models did a pretty good job forecasting the deep late-summer low that brought significant rains to large parts of Manitoba two weekends ago and into the first half of last week. The brisk northerly flow behind the low did keep temperatures on the cool side, with daytime highs struggling to make it into

Forecast: Typical late-summer August weather

Covering the period from August 19 to 28, 2019

Well, last issue’s forecast wasn’t too far off. We did see some clouds and showers move through our region last Thursday and Friday, but most regions ended up seeing more sun than clouds instead of the other way around. This forecast period will begin with an area of low pressure slowly pulling off to our

Forecast: Not much rain expected

Issued August 92019: Covering the period from August 13 to 21

To start off this issue’s forecast I have a little explaining to do. Those of you who regularly follow my forecasts know I create them on Monday morning, and you end up seeing it a couple of days later. Well, due to changes in publishing, my new deadline is now three days earlier: Friday morning.

Forecast: Warm long weekend, then a short cool-down early next week

Issued July 29, 2019: Covering the period from July 31 to August 7

The first half of last week’s forecast played out as expected, but things deviated a little during the second half. The unsettled weather forecasted for the early part of this week consolidated into a stronger system that pushed through late last weekend. Because the system was stronger and pushed through all at once, we ended

Forecast: Nice mid-summer weather on tap

Issued July 22, 2019: Covering the period from July 24 to July 31

While the weather models may not be bang on with their forecasts, they have been doing a pretty darned good job with the big-weather picture. We saw this once again during the last forecast period which saw plenty of active weather during the first half followed by dry, sunny, warm weather in the second half.

Forecast: More showers, then sunny and dry

Forecast issued Monday, July 15, 2019 covering July 17-24, 2019

Once again, the weather models did a pretty good job with the forecast. The heat and humidity moved in last weekend as expected and we did see several rounds of thunderstorms move through on Sunday and Monday of last week. This forecast period will begin fairly unsettled as a broad area of low pressure tracks

Forecast: Warm and unsettled weather lays ahead

Issued July 8, 2019: Covering the period from July 10 to July 17

Last week’s forecast played out pretty close to what the weather models predicted. For this forecast period it looks like the area of low pressure that brought the unsettled, stormy weather to much of southern and central Manitoba during the first half of this week will have finally moved off to the east. Weak high

Forecast: And now, your fairly quiet forecast

Last week’s forecast played out fairly close to what the weather models predicted. If we see the same thing for this forecast period, expect mostly sunny skies, maybe the odd thundershower, and temperatures right around average for early July. This forecast period will begin with a large upper low dropping into northern Manitoba from the
