A Truly Unusual Year For Weather

Ithink nearly everyone who reads this will admit that we have seen some unusual and record-breaking weather over the last year or so across Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta. If you are feeling that you might be alone, that it is only our part of the world seeing these weather extremes, you would be wrong. It

Well, it felt a little more summerlike this past week and some areas were able to dry out, but other areas got hammered once again with heavy rains coming in the form of thunderstorms. In what seems to be a pattern this spring, we are once again starting this forecast period with a strong and

What’s Up With All The Rain?

How does the saying/ song go? “Rain, rain, go away, come again another day.” I think for a lot of people across at least the southern third of the Prairies, “another day” could be a month from now. Farther north, conditions are almost the exact opposite. Months of dry weather have left things extremely dry.

Forecast – for Jun. 2, 2011

The weather models have been having a fair bit of trouble lately and this looks to continue into this forecast period. Last week the models predicted a strong low forming to our west over the weekend, then moving to the northeast. This low did form, but farther south, and it moved in early, bringing the

Last week’s forecast started off exactly as the models predicted, but by the time the weekend rolled around things got a little off track. Forecast – for May. 5, 2011

Iwish I could say the weather models are pointing toward summer-like weather moving in after the blast of winter last weekend, but unfortunately it’s not looking that way. On the bright side, while I wouldn’t call it summer, temperatures won’t be too cold during this forecast period and with a bit of luck we won’t

Forecast – for Apr. 14, 2011

After a fairly warm start to the week it looks like we will cool down once again to continue what’s turning out to be a cooler-than-average April. Arctic high pressure will slowly slide southward behind an area of low pressure which is forecast to move through north-central Manitoba during the middle of the week. This

Forecast – for Apr. 7, 2011

Last week’s forecast didn’t come out exactly as I thought it would, but looking back, the biggest problem was with the timing of the weather systems. The storm system forecast to hit our region early this week ended up moving in a little early, bringing some significant rain and snow to southern regions. This week
