You could clean and sanitize up to 10 dozen eggs every three to five minutes with this Roto-Egg egg washer advertised in our Feb. 6, 1958 issue.

Other ads in that issue remind of how many farmers raised poultry at that time. Swifts advertised chicks for New Sky-Hi 314A breed, averaging 289 white eggs per year. Brown egg fanciers could get a few less — 285 from the Sex-Sal-Link bloodline from the “famous J.J. Warren breeding farm.” Brett-Young Seeds and Modern Hatchery in Dauphin offered “Hy-Line 123 Cream-Egg layers for Top Profit.”

In order to boost production, you could buy some Double-Duty Eggshell Maker from Winnipeg Supply. Writing direct to the “Eighth Floor, Boyd Building, Winnipeg 1,” would get you a brochure on the product. If you happened to be in town to pick it up yourself, and also wanted to become a confident dance partner, another ad offered a one-hour private dance lesson for just $1 at Arthur Murray’s studio close by on Portage Ave.

What I learned about Manitoba eggs

Manitoba-laid eggs provide good, locally produced nutrition while supporting local farmers and the Canadian agriculture industry.

If you were more interested in turkey poults, Manitoba Dairy and Poultry Co-operative (Manco) was offering “Our Tufford strain broad-breasted bronze,” which had won first prize at the Royal Winter Fair.
