The December issue of the The Scoop Shovel in 1926 was drawn by Ed Russenholt, later to become CBC Manitoba’s first TV weatherman with his signature forecast for the “Heart of the Continent, “ which was also a title for his book of Manitoba history.
It reads: “Your membership in the Pool is an effort to co-operate in peace and goodwill — goodwill expressed, not only in better business and bigger bank balances, but in happy homes, healthy families and richer and fuller lives. Co-operative distribution of the fruits of your toil benefits you, your family, your country and all those countries who need bread.”
