Reporter Alexis Stockford has been named associate editor, effective immediately. Stockford joined the Co-operator six years ago, and has proven herself an able and dedicated reporter with a keen interest in all facets of agriculture.
Gord Gilmour will remain active with the publication, but is assuming a new role as senior editor of news and national affairs.

Mazergroup’s Bob Mazer dies
Mazergroup’s Bob Mazer, who helped grow his family’s company into a string of farm equipment dealerships and the main dealer for New Holland machinery in Saskatchewan and Manitoba, died July 6 from cancer.
Stockford says the publication has evolved significantly during her time here, and she looks forward to guiding it.
“I’m most excited to see where the publication goes in the future and carving out my own part in that process,” she said.
She noted the agriculture sector is undergoing a period of rapid change, making it a very interesting time to work in agriculture media.
Stockford grew up on a farm near Miami, Man., and holds a journalism degree from British Columbia’s Thompson Rivers University. Among her chief goals is ensuring the Co-operator continues to be a trusted source for information about the province’s agriculture sector and rural community as it transitions into the digital future.
She also looks forward to adding to her own knowledge, alongside her audience, as the ag sector is continually learning, new research is coming out, new technologies are honed and markets and policies shift.
“My favourite part of the job, by far, has always been engaging with farmers — hearing their stories, shining a light on their concerns,” she said. “I expect that won’t change, even if my name is now more in the background than in the bylines.”
