“But we lost a lot of acres… which suggests to me that some organic guys have let some of their organics land go. And they are growing canola on the side,” says Laura Telford. Photo: Greg Berg

Glacier FarmMedia MarketsFarm — World production of rapeseed/canola for 2024/25 was trimmed by almost 0.53 per cent on April 10, when the United States Department of Agriculture released its World Agricultural Production report.

Unlike the USDA’s World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates, released the same day, the WAP includes several more crops, including rapeseed.

The USDA pegged world rapeseed production at 85.24 million tonnes, compared to 85.69 million in March, with the output estimates for the European Union and India reduced in the April report.

The EU is now expected to harvest 16.87 million tonnes of rapeseed versus the 17.24 million estimated in March. India was lowered to 11.52 million tonnes from 11.60 million.

Canada firmly remained the world’s top producer at 18.80 million tonnes, which is one million more than what Statistics Canada pegged the country’s harvest at.
