Jan 16 (Reuters) - Soybean spot basis bids were steady to
mixed at U.S. Midwest processors and river terminals on Thursday
as pressure from a spike in farmer sales and higher futures was
offset by support from good crusher and exporter demand, dealers
said.
* Corn bids were also flat to narrowly mixed amid increased
farmer sales and deliveries.
* Futures for each crop were hovering near the highest
levels in more than three weeks at the Chicago Board of Trade.
The jump in futures coupled with warmer temperatures this week

* Still, profitable margins for processors and grain
handlers as well as a slow pace of farmer sales in the final
weeks of last year has bolstered the corn and soybean basis
despite the pickup in country movement.
* The U.S. Agriculture Department on Thursday pegged export
sales of both commodities above analyst expectations last week,
which propped up futures in early activity.
* Soybean bids weakened by 5 cents per bushel at processors
in Illinois and Iowa but rose at a crushing plant in Indiana and
along the Illinois River. Corn bids eased at a ethanol plant in
western Iowa but firmed at a corn mill in eastern Nebraska.
