To prevent soggy pie crust, sprinkle a tablespoon of flour on the bottom shell before adding filling.

To prevent foaming when making jam, add a tablespoon of butter to the fruit when cooking.

Spot remover for clothes: 2 parts water, 1 part rubbing alcohol. Try on an inconspicuous area first.

Wall cleaner: 1/2 cup ammonia, 1/4 cup vinegar, 1/4 cup washing soda, 4 litres warm water.

Drain cleaner: 1 cup baking soda, 1 cup table salt, 1/4 cup cream of tartar. Pour 1/4 cup down sink followed by 2 cups boiling water. Do monthly.

Giant Canada geese have gone wild in Manitoba

Giant Canada geese are seemingly everywhere and can be fine table fare for local hunters, but 70 years ago, they were borderline extinct.

Window cleaner: 3 tablespoons ammonia, 1 tablespoon vinegar. Add to some cool water in a spray bottle. Wipe with newspaper.

Furniture polish: 1 cup turpentine, 2 cups linseed oil, 1 cup water. Mix and apply to furniture. Polish with a soft cloth.

To store pillows: Stuff pillows into garbage bag. Take hose of vacuum cleaner and place in centre. Draw bag tightly around hose and suck till flat. Spin bag and wrap with rubber band around the top of bag. Store in suitcase to save space, or put into pillow sham on bed.

To soak up fat that accumulates in the bottom of loaf pan when making a meat loaf, line bottom of loaf pan with bread crusts or slices before you put the meat loaf in the pan. When baked, take out meat loaf and discard the fat-soaked pieces of bread.
