Slow down:

Motorists would be required to slow down and pass tow trucks and roadside assistance vehicles only when it is safe to do so under amendments to the Highway Traffic Act introduced by Infrastructure and Transportation Minister Steve Ashton.

The amendments would expand existing provisions of the Highway Traffic Act that require motorists to approach stopped emergency vehicles with caution when their beacons are flashing. That includes motor carrier enforcement officers and conservation officers. Violators face a $278 fine. Good cause: Oak River seed grower and Manitoba Seed Growers’ Association’s (MSGC) director Eric McLean won a beautiful framed photograph used on the cover of 2010 edition of Seed Manitoba at the MSGA’s annual banquet in Winnipeg Dec. 9. It was presented to him by MSGA President Doug Heman of Virden. Seed Manitoba is a joint effort between the MSGC, Manitoba Agriculture, Food and Rural Initiatives and the Manitoba Co-operator. The draw for the photograph, a close-up of green oats, raised $340 for the Canada Foodgrains Bank.
