Another growing season comes to an end

A dry summer generally left workable soils, even after September’s wet second half

Another month has come and gone and it’s time to look back at our weather so far this fall. To start off, we saw the end of the growing season across most regions last week, as temperatures fell just below freezing last Thursday morning. I know at my place the thermometer measured an overnight low

2013: The year without a spring?

Back in 2004 we had the year without a “proper” summer. Last winter it was probably the closest we could come to a year without a winter. Maybe this year it’s going to be the year without a spring. The longer we remain in what can only be described as a “deep freeze,” the better

Is there a cold, snowy March ahead?

Another month has come and gone as we slowly make our way toward spring. So far we have made it through the three official months of winter, and if you were to listen to the general population talking you’d think it was a cold, nasty winter. So, let’s look back and see just how cold

Warm January, cold February?

From some of the comments I’ve been hearing over the last couple of weeks you would think that January must have been on track to be one of the coldest Januaries ever. It seems as if one week of really cold weather has created one horribly cold winter! I guess everyone has already forgotten about

When we look back at May’s weather, just like April, we had a little bit of everything. The month started off around average, then summer

How we got this spring heat wave

There are a number of words that have been used over the last week or so to try and describe the weather we’ve been experiencing, and I feel pretty much every one has been valid. Words like unprecedented, never before, amazing, unusual, remarkable, unheard of, and even a little scary all describe the weather perfectly.

Will we finally see some cold?

Christmas has come and gone, December has come and gone, and 2011 is done, so we have a lot of weather to recap! In this issue we’ll only have room to discuss this December’s weather and then look ahead to see what January’s weather might be like. In the following issue we’ll take a look
