Manitoba Crop Alliance (MCA) is accepting nominations from farmer members to serve as delegates on its four crop committees.

The committees are part of the organization’s pledge to ensure representation of commodities after five industry groups merged to form MCA.

“We continue to put our members first and strive to improve the competitiveness of all the crops we represent,” said CEO Pam de Rocquigny. “By joining a committee, farmer members get a say in how their check-off dollars are best invested.”

Federal money to grow Manitoba agriculture manufacturers

Manitoba’s agricultural manufacturing sector got a financial booster shot Aug. 28, with benefiting companies ranging from faba bean processors to farm equipment makers.

MCA delegates will fulfil the group’s mandate of research, agronomy, market development and access, and communication and advocacy initiatives within each of the four crop committees: corn, flax, sunflower, and wheat and barley.

“Our goal is to improve all aspects of crop production and market development,” de Rocquigny said. “As a farmer-driven operation, we are committed to building new connections that offer valuable knowledge and perspectives.”

MCA delegates will develop crop-specific recommendations. They can also be involved in MCA’s Whole Farm Research Program, a cross-commodity approach to research that addresses the needs of diverse cropping systems across Manitoba.

Serving as a delegate provides an opportunity to learn more about the Manitoba agriculture industry and the role farmers play in guiding its direction.

The nomination period will close at 4:30 p.m. Oct. 30. For more information on the nomination or election process, including eligibility requirements, responsibilities of a delegate, time requirements and how to submit a nomination form, visit MCA’s website or contact them by email at [email protected] or phone at 204-745-6661.
