The Manitoba government will have a new deputy minister of agriculture in the New Year.
Brenda DeSerranno, formerly of the provincial treasury board secretariat, will take on the role as of Jan. 7, 2023.
The announcement comes with the retirement of long-time deputy minister, Dori Gingera-Beauchemin. She has served in the role since 2013, topping off a 43-year career with Manitoba Agriculture that also included a stint as assistant deputy minister of agri-food and rural development and assistant deputy minister of policy and agri-environment, among other roles.

Gingera-Beauchemin held the deputy minister’s role across both NDP and Progressive Conservative governments, as well as four different agriculture ministers – Ron Kostyshyn, Ralph Eichler, Blaine Pedersen and a brief return of Eichler to the role before Manitoba’s current ag minister, Derek Johnson, was named early this year.
She announced her upcoming retirement in mid-summer.
The department’s incoming deputy minister will be coming from three years as assistant deputy minister of analytical services at the treasury board.
“In this role, she has gained experience in the programs and services offered by all government departments including Manitoba Agriculture,” said a Nov. 30 provincial news release. “DeSerranno also has experience in financial and contract management, consultation with stakeholders, real estate management, leased properties and property management.”
The release also noted DeSerranno’s post-secondary education in business administration and urban land development.
