In response to the July 20 Co-operator article, “Survey says Canadians want cage-free eggs but purchase choices don’t agree”:
The article is largely based on a survey commissioned by an animal activist group in partnership with a U.K.-based polling firm seeking to eliminate the consumption of animal protein. Their agenda is not to contribute to our food system in a constructive way, but to cast doubt on the world-class farming practices in place on Canadian farms.
The bottom line is that animals are at the heart of what we do and Canadians know that. We’re continuously evolving to ensure the long-term sustainability of the egg industry that Canadians rely on, with the well-being of our animals remaining our top priority.
