WINNIPEG, June 10 (MarketsFarm News) – The following is a glance at the news moving markets in Canada and globally.

– Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Environment Minister Catherine McKenna will announce a new strategy for plastics in Canada on Monday. Accoding to CBC News, the Liberal government will ban single-use plastics as early as 2021, including plastic straws, cotton swabs, drink stirrers, plates, cutlery, and more. The new strategy is expected to generate jobs and reduce greenhouse gasses, according to sources.

– New requirements for foreign nationals to work in Canada have caused unprecedented headaches for some farmers. Many producers have relied upon the Seasonal Agricultural Worker Program (SWAP) which allows pickers and planters from Asia, the Pacific, South and Central America to work on Canadian farms. In December 2018, a rule requiring biometric data such as fingerprints was put into effect, though some workers from small islands were not able to easily provide this information. An Ottawa farmer who has waited six weeks for his regular seasonal workers said new restrictions on foreign workers are threatening to ruin his business, according to CBC.

– According to reports from the United Nations, Iran has accelerated its production of enriched uranium. Iran’s nuclear deal caps the amount of low-enriched uranium Iran can produce, but due to inconsistencies in production, it’s unclear when Iran will reach that limit, according to Reuters.

– As the race to replace Theresa May as the United Kingdom’s leader heats up, candidates unveil their Brexit plans. Jeremy Hunt, a frontrunner in the race, said he would leave the European Union without a deal. “Our failure to deliver Brexit has put our country and our party in grave peril. The leadership I offer is based on one simple truth: without Brexit there will be no Conservative government and maybe no Conservative Party,” he said to Reuters.
