MarketsFarm — Prices for feed barley and wheat are running about the same, from where Susanne Leclerc sits at Market Master Ltd. in Edmonton.
Barley and wheat going into central Alberta were both running at $315 per tonne, she said.
“We’re seeing buyer strength gaining coverage for the summer,” she said, but noted trading activity has declined somewhat this month.
“Some buyers are grabbing what they can,” she said. “Everyone wants to move before spring break and buyers want to cover up to summer.”

Apart from good opportunities for feed wheat right now, Leclerc said there’s also significant demand for heated canola heading into the feed market.
Feed barley prices across the Prairies were steady to higher this week, according to Prairie Ag Hotwire. Prices held firm in Alberta at $5.15-$6.86 per bushel. Manitoba saw an increase of 31 cents/bu., bringing its prices to $5.25-$5.73. Saskatchewan had the biggest gain at 70 cents/bu., raising prices there to $5.15-$6.20.
Wheat prices were steady as well in Alberta, at $5.75-$8.44/bu. There were small to moderate gains in Manitoba and Saskatchewan, of six to 13 cents. Feed wheat was running $7.10-$7.33/bu. in Manitoba and $5.70-$7.38 next door in Saskatchewan.
