REUTERS / Lean hogs posted the second-biggest gain year to date of the 19 commodities that comprise the Reuters-Jefferies CRB index. Hogs were up 13.3 per cent so far this year, lagging only gold, which gained 13.8 per cent. The December contract posted the biggest daily rise in six months Sept. 29. Prices quickly recovered from a Sept. 28 USDA hog report that showed modest hog herd growth.
