The second sale of the year, was a cold day for the Winnipeg Livestock Auction. The buyers were ready and the bidding kept things in a warming fashion. There were 83 sheep and lambs and no goats.
There was only one group of three 100-pound Rideaucross lambs. The Rideau-cross lambs brought $187 ($1.87 per lb.).
The classification of 80 94-pound lambs was represented by three groups of lambs. The six 93-pound Rideau-cross lambs, brought $170.19 ($1.83 per lb.). The 85-pound Suffolkcross lambs, brought $163.20 ($1.92 per lb.). The 80-pound Suffolk-cross lamb, brought $151.20 ($1.89 per lb.).

Majority of the lambs at this sale, were in the less-than-80- pound classification. The lambs in the weight range of 70 to 75 pounds, brought $135.80 to $143.25 ($1.94 to $1.91 per lb.). An exception was one 75-pound Cheviot-cross lamb, brought $116.53 ($1.765 per lb.).
Two large groups of 62-pound Dorper-cross lambs, brought $120.28 ($1.94 per lb.). A group of eight 65-pound Cheviotcross lambs, brought $124.80 ($1.92 per lb.). A scruffy, woolly 60-pound Suffolk-cross lamb, brought $97.50 ($1.625 per lb.).
A group of six 52-pound Dorper-cross lambs, brought $99.84 ($1.92 per lb.).
The sale was limited in animals, likely due to the weather. The interest was high for these available animals for this sale. A well-developed 200-pound Suffolk-cross ram entered the arena, demanding the full attention of the crowd. The sale ended with this ram, which brought $184 ($0.92 per lb.).
Ontario Stockyards Inc. market report indicated that heavyweight lambs and sheep sold for lower prices. Well-fed lighter lambs sold for a premium price. Goats sold at a steady price.
