Elkhorn-area farmer Hugh Drake has been appointed an interim director of the Manitoba Canola Growers Association (MCGA).
He replaces Barry Chappell of Hamiota who resigned in April due to business and family obligations.
“MCGA’s board of directors looks forward to working with Hugh as he brings with him a great deal of experience,” MCGA president Rob Pettinger said in a news release.
Drake served on the boards of Manitoba Pool and Agricore United from 1993 to 2007.
He also ran in the MCGA’s 2009 election against five others seeking to fill four positions.

Chappell said in an interview last week he didn’t have enough time to serve on the MCGA and run his seed business, farm and spend time with his family.
“I just didn’t think I could do the job that I should be able to do,” he said. “When I put my mind and heart into things I want to do a good job.”
Chappell, who had been the MCGA’s secretary, was first elected in 2007 and came to office with a four-year term in January 2008.
Drake will fill Chappell’s vacancy until the next MCGA election in 2012. [email protected]
