Glacier FarmMedia | MarketsFarm – Saskatchewan harvest operations neared completion during the week ended Oct. 14, with only a few fields left to go, according to the latest provincial crop report.
Growers in the southeast, southwest and west-central regions of the province completed their combining operations for the year. In the northeast, harvest progress sat at 99 per cent, while the east-central and northwest regions were at 98 per cent. Provincewide, the overall harvest was 99 per cent complete.
In total, 99 per cent of oat fields were harvested, while canola and flax were 98 per cent complete. Soybeans were the furthest behind at 90 per cent.

Cash prices for spring wheat and durum across the Canadian Prairies were mostly higher during the week ended Nov. 4. As Minneapolis spring wheat stepped back, there was a modest increase in Kansas City hard red while Chicago soft red was up sharply.
There was very little rainfall in Saskatchewan during the week. Cropland topsoil moisture was rated at 54 per cent adequate, 37 per cent short and nine per cent very short. Hayland topsoil moisture was at 45 per cent adequate, 41 per cent short and 14 per cent very short. Finally, pasture topsoil moisture was at 37 per cent adequate, 42 per cent short and 21 per cent very short.
Heavy winds and migratory birds brought minimal damage to what little was left in the fields. After finishing the harvest, producers will spray weeds and prepare livestock operations for winter.
