McDonald’s Canada and the cattle industry’s Beef Information Centre (BIC) are countering what they say is an Internet hoax claiming the fast-food chain sources its beef from poorly regulated foreign countries.
“McDonald’s Canada proudly supports the Canadian beef industry,” says Jeff Kroll, senior vice-president, National Supply Chain, at McDonald’s Canada.
Throughout Canada, McDonald’s serves approximately 2.5 million customers every day and its annual shopping cart includes more than 64 million pounds of locally raised beef, the company says in a release.

“McDonald’s Canada has made a commitment to Canadian beef which today translates into the company using 100 per cent Canadian beef for all its burger offerings,” says John Gillespie, BIC chairman and producer from Ayr, Ontario. “As the largest foodservice purchaser of beef in Canada, this is a significant alliance for Canada’s beef industry.”
McDonald’s says it has in the past sourced small quantities of beef for its Canadian burgers from New Zealand, Australia, and the U. S. but it is currently sourcing all of its needs from Canadian suppliers.
