Finding efficiencies in fertilizer applications

With the federal government’s goal to achieve a 30 per cent reduction in nitrous oxide emissions – not to mention the high fertilizer costs incurred by farmers in 2022 – there’s a great need to use these products to their full potential without causing additional harm to the environment. But some of the research out there for farmers can be a lot to interpret and understand.

In order to decode some of that information and help guide farmers to practices that can work – and the one’s that won’t – John Heard, soil fertility specialist with Manitoba Agriculture, led agronomists through what’s being tested at the Ian N. Morrison Research Farm in Carman, Man., during Crop Diagnostic School this past summer.
