In this week’s issue of the Co-operator, our Alexis Stockford goes hog wild and delves into the quickly growing issue of wild pigs in Manitoba. She found there’s little in the way of hard data, but many anecdotal reports suggest the population is growing very quickly.
Allan Dawson is keeping on top of the canola file and reports there’s been little progress on a resolution, largely because China refuses to engage. He spoke to some trade watchers who suggest that this situation is symptomatic of a new post-free-trade era.
Alexis also spoke with John Gavloski, Manitoba Agriculture’s entomologist, about insect lookalikes that can be mistaken for economically damaging pests. In some cases he says they’re actually beneficial, and counsels knowing for sure exactly what it is before you spray.
