Manitoba farmers want in on strychnine exception

Western Manitoba ranchers say gopher damage rivals conditions in Saskatchewan but province has yet to request a federal strychnine exemption.

The firm is targeting out-of-province producers and promising improved logistics, greater efficiency and reduced shipping costs into the Manitoba market. It will also provide a new revenue stream for Delta 9 in a sector that’s seeing a painful retrenchment after an exuberant overbuild following legalization.

“We see Delta 9’s entry into the distribution services space to be the logical next step in the company’s vertical integration strategy,” said John Arbuthnot, CEO of Delta 9, in a media release.

“Our existing relationships with the Canadian cannabis industry’s leading suppliers and centralized warehouse presence in Winnipeg make us the ideal provider of these market services.”

Retail cannabis sales in Manitoba for the 12 months ending Aug. 30, 2020 exceeded $169 million, according to data from Statistics Canada. There are 150 retail operations in the province.

Delta 9 says it intends to execute distribution agreements with suppliers “immediately.”
