Young Manitobans, including this group from Ag Days 2020, have benefitted from Agriculture in the Classroom-Manitoba and Canadian Agriculture Literacy Month.

Agriculture in the Classroom-Manitoba is seeking volunteers to tell the sector’s story this March.

It’s part of Canadian Agriculture Literacy Month, a hands-on program that brings agriculture into the classroom and encourages students to learn about and celebrate Canadian agriculture.

With the return of in-person events in classrooms, AITC-Manitoba is predicting demand will be high this year.

Mazergroup’s Bob Mazer dies

Mazergroup’s Bob Mazer, who helped grow his family’s company into a string of farm equipment dealerships and the main dealer for New Holland machinery in Saskatchewan and Manitoba, died July 6 from cancer.

“If you are passionate about sharing your story and want to present to students in the classroom, we will take as many presentations as you’re willing to offer,” the organization wrote in a volunteer appeal.

Volunteers will be matched with a teacher to arrange a date and time for their presentation, to students in grades two, three and four. Presentations will be 45 minutes to an hour long.

Participating volunteers will be encouraged to show students what they do, why they love farming and agriculture, and open the students’ eyes to new knowledge and build a stronger appreciation for food and the role of agriculture.

Volunteers and teachers can register online at the AITC website on or before Feb. 4.
