New Holland turned heads at Agritechica 2025 with a one-off concept tractor that celebrates the company’s Italian heritage.

The T5.120 Il Trattore concept tractor, built on a standard production T5 chassis, takes its design cues from the original Fiat 702 — the first production Fiat tractor, which entered commercial production in Italy in 1918.

“The driving force behind it was we were coming up to Agritechica and we wanted to do a concept to celebrate our design and heritage and where we’re going as a company,” says Andrew Dunne, New Holland’s brand identity and product launches manager.

From the 1918 Fiat 702 to a modern tribute

The design team used the Fiat 702 as its benchmark. The original tractor was developed to address labour shortages in Europe during the First World War and introduced a four-cylinder engine and load-bearing powertrain as a chassis — an approach also adopted in the original Fordson tractor, which launched commercially in 1917.

The 702’s success helped establish Fiat’s reputation in agricultural equipment. In 1991, Fiat took over the Ford New Holland brand and eventually adopted the New Holland name for all its models. Here in North America, Fiat-built tractors appeared over the years wearing Allis-Chalmers, Hesston and White Farm Equipment badges.

Modern styling with heritage colour cues

“We took the original 702 Fiat tractor and we took that as a benchmark,” says Dunne. “We took the utility tractor today that is built in Jesi and decided to style it, to give it a modern twist harkening back to the original heritage.”

The colour scheme draws from the original tractor but with a contemporary treatment — a darker metallic finish replaces the standard New Holland livery, while the original Fiat red-orange appears on the wheels.

Beyond the body styling, the Il Trattore features several special touches, including a leather-wrapped toolbox colour-matched to the tractor and leather-wrapped cab interior components — reminiscent of Mercedes-Benz including matched leather luggage with its iconic 300SL Gull Wing in the 1950s.

“At New Holland, we do care about how things look and the style of them,” Dunne says. “We like to present ourselves as a stylish modern brand.”

A fast build and an uncertain future

The project came together in about six months, driven by CEO Garret Marx, who was inspired by a 702 on display at the company’s Turin headquarters. An in-house design team developed the modern look.

The Il Trattore concept tractor drew significant media attention at Agritechnica — nearly as much as New Holland’s new production models.

It’s now on display at the company’s customer centre at its assembly plant in Jesi, Italy. From there, its future is open.

“Maybe we’ll bring the tractor to EIMA because it’s a home show in Italy,” says Dunne. “After that, we don’t know. There’s some talk of it going to a museum in Turin, which is a Fiat historical museum. It’s not out of the question that maybe we’ll auction it off.”
