Global markets: US economy sees bump upward in fourth-quarter

WINNIPEG, February 26 – The following is a glance at the news moving markets globally.

US ECONOMY SEES MODERATE GROWTH IN FOURTH-QUARTER
The US economy grew one per cent in the fourth quarter of 2015, according to the country’s commerce department.

The country’s gross domestic product grew at a stronger pace in the fourth-quarter than many analysts had expected, but slower than the two per cent gain seen in the third-quarter.

OIL FUTURES EXPECTED TO SEE FIRST WEEKLY GAIN IN A MONTH
Brent crude oil futures are headed for their first weekly gains in a month, according to reports on Friday.

Prices reversed losses on Friday as traders were hopeful producing countries would take action to combat the supply glut, and strong demand for US gasoline.

G20 LEADERS MEET ON FRIDAY
G20 policy makers are meeting in Shanghai today to discuss how to spur growth in a struggling global economy.
