– New unemployment claims in the United States for the week ended June 19 declined by 7,000 to 411,000, according to the U.S. Labor Department. – An airstrike killed 43 people in the town of Togoga in Ethiopia’s Tigray region on Tuesday, which the country’s military spokesperson Colonel Getnet Adane said only killed combatants “dressed in street clothes.” Ethiopia’s military has been fighting members of the Tigray People’s Liberation Front since November, which has displaced more than two million people and may cause a possible famine, according to the United Nations.

– Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said earlier today that the country is prepared to fire on warships intruding on its waters. The remarks came only a day after Russia claimed one of its warships fired warning shots and one of its warplanes dropped bombs near the British destroyer Defender in the Black Sea near Crimea, the Ukrainian region Russia recognizes as its own. The British government denies that the incident took place.
