– New unemployment claims in the United States for the week ended June 19 declined by 7,000 to 411,000, according to the U.S. Labor Department. However, the total still exceeded economists’ projections of 380,000. Weekly unemployment claims in the U.S. have decreased since the start of 2021 as more businesses open up and new COVID-19 cases decline. However, many states are ending enhanced unemployment programs early, believing they are not providing any incentive to get people back to work.
