Glacier FarmMedia — The following is a glance at the news moving markets in Canada and globally.

  • Officials from Russia and the United States were meeting in Abu Dhabi today to discuss the latest peace plan to end the war in Ukraine. The talks come as both Russia and Ukraine continued to launch attacks, with seven people reportedly killed in Kyiv overnight and three dead in southern Russia.
  • The European Parliament voted 457-148, with 33 abstentions, to deepen ties with Ukraine on Tuesday. The 27-member European Union approved a 1.5-billion-euro program that included 300 million euros for the Ukraine Support Instrument.
  • Alberta and the federal Liberal government have agreed to the broad outlines of an energy deal, reported CBC News. The memorandum of understanding would give Alberta special exemptions from federal environmental laws while also offering political support to a new oil pipeline to the B.C. coast. A formal announcement is expected on Thursday, but would reportedly be contingent on Alberta embracing a stricter industrial carbon pricing regime and other measures.
