– The United States and Iran will hold indirect peace talks in Geneva on Thursday to reach a deal over Iran’s nuclear program and avoid a potential war. The U.S. wants restraints on Iran’s nuclear program as populist dissent grows against the latter’s government. Iran believes it has the right to enrich uranium and refuses to discuss its long-range missile program or its support for Hamas and Hezbollah. The talks will be mediated by Oman. Meanwhile, the Associated Press reported that U.S. military vessels typically docked in Bahrain are out at sea.

– Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney will travel to India on Thursday to improve Canada-India relations and to build the framework on a trade deal between the two countries. Carney’s trip will last five days and will mostly consist of strengthening business ties. Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe and New Brunswick Premier Susan Holt will accompany Carney on the trip. The prime minister will then travel to Australia and Japan next week. In 2023, former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accused agents of the Indian government for the murder of a Sikh separatist on Canadian soil. In response, India accused Canada of harbouring Khalistani extremists seeking an independent Sikh state.
– Three major Canadian banks released their first-quarter financial reports on Thursday. Royal Bank of Canada reported a profit of C$5.79 billion, compared to C$5.13 billion one year earlier, as revenue increased C$1.22 billion at C$17.96 billion. TD Bank Group reported its first quarter profit at C$4.04 billion, up from C$2.79 billion in Q1 2025. Revenue also rose by C$2.54 billion at C$16.59 billion. CIBC made C$3.10 billion in the first quarter, C$930 million more than the same period last year. Revenue grew C$1.12 billion at C$8.40 billion.
