- There will now be a 50 per cent tariff on copper imported by the United States. President Donald Trump made the announcement on Tuesday. Canada is the number two supplier of copper to the U.S., after Chile. Of Canada’s C$9.3 billion in exports of copper and copper-based products in 2023, 52 per cent were destined to the U.S. Meanwhile, trade talks between the U.S. and Canada continue ahead of the Trump-imposed deadline of July 21.

- At 3.14 million tonnes, Ukraine’s annual rapeseed exports dropped 15 per cent in 2024/25 from the previous year, consultancy APK-Inform said on Tuesday. APK-Inform noted the decline is largely due to reduced production in Ukraine over the duration of the Russian invasion. The consultancy projected Ukraine’s rapeseed exports in 2025/26 to contract by another 15 per cent at 2.70 million tonnes.
- The U.S. Department of Agriculture will issue its next monthly supply and demand report on Friday. The July edition of the World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates is set to include updated numbers for U.S. planted and harvested areas. Tomorrow, Conab will publish its latest round of estimates for Brazil’s crops.
- Statistics Canada released its quarterly farm input price index on Wednesday, with total farm inputs rising to 163.3 points in the first quarter of 2025. That’s up 3.3 points from Q4 of 2024 and 6.8 points from a year ago.
