– Prime Minister Mark Carney shuffled his cabinet on Monday, adding Marc Miller as the new minister of Canadian identity, culture and official languages. Miller was previously a cabinet minister under the Justin Trudeau government. In addition, Public Works and Procurement Minister Joel Lightbound was named Carney’s new Quebec lieutenant and Minister of Environment and Climate Change Julie Dabrusin was given the parks and nature file. Last week, Canadian Identity and Culture Minister Steven Guilbeault resigned from cabinet after the federal government and Alberta reached a memorandum of understanding regarding a new pipeline. Guilbeault was a former environmental minister.

– Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet with United States special envoy Steve Witkoff, as well as Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of U.S. President Donald Trump, in Moscow today. They will discuss how to end Russia’s invasion of Ukraine after U.S. officials met with their Ukrainian counterparts in Florida on Sunday. Russia announced earlier today its military captured the crucial eastern Ukrainian city of Pokrovsk, while Ukraine’s military said it still has control of the northern part of the city. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is visiting Ireland today after meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron on Monday.
– The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development forecasted 3.2 per cent growth for the world’s economy in 2025, down from 3.3 per cent in 2024 but higher than its 2.9 per cent estimate in June. Despite implementing numerous tariffs, the U.S. economy is expected to grow by two per cent, up from OECD’s 1.6 per cent June estimate but lower than the 2.8 per cent growth seen in 2024. Canada’s economy is projected to grow by 1.1 per cent in 2025, 1.3 per cent in 2026 and 1.7 per cent in 2027.
