Global Markets: Canadian inflation at 2.2 per cent in November

  • Canada’s Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 2.2 per cent on an annual basis in November, which was in line with the October reading, reported Statistics Canada. Grocery price inflation came in at 4.7 per cent which compared with 3.4 per cent in October. That marked the highest increase in store-bought food prices since December 2023.  
  • At least 15 people were killed and 38 hospitalized after two gunmen attacked a Hanukkah event at Australia’s Bondi Beach. World leaders including Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney condemned the attack, and Australian officials have said they will overhaul the country’s already strict gun laws.
  • The latest round of peace talks to end the nearly four-year war in Ukraine wrapped up in Berlin, with no immediate resolution.
  • Torrential rains triggered flash floods in Morocco’s coastal province of Safi, with at least 37 people confirmed dead, according to local authorities. Rescue teams were searching for other casualties, with more rain in the forecast through Tuesday.
