Feed Grains: USDA raises corn crop prediction

Winnipeg, October 12 (CNS) – The USDA monthly crop
production report released Thursday increased its corn
prediction. The USDA pegged the corn harvest at 14.28 billion
bushels, based on an average yield of 171.8 bushels per acre.
That compares with the September forecasts of 14.184 billion
bushels with an average yield of 169.9 bushels per acre.

Another USDA report released Oct. 5 said corn acres in
Venezuela will be down again. Both the area harvested to corn

2017-18 marketing year. Total corn consumption as well is
forecasted to be lower at 2.29 million tonnes, down from an
earlier forecast of 2.5 million tonnes.

The Tunisia state grains agency has issued an international
tender to purchase contact for 75,000 tonnes of durum wheat,
50,00 tonnes of soft wheat and 50,000 tonnes of feed barley,
European traders said Wednesday. The tender was set to close
Thursday.

Feed barley prices held steady overnight in Alberta at $4.51
per bushel, according to the Prairie Ag Hotwire. Over the week
prices have increased by 15 cents. Feed wheat in Saskatchewan
held steady as well at $4.80 per bushel. Prices however have
dropped over the month by 45 cents.
