Winnipeg, October 13 (CNS) – Farmers in Iowa are harvesting
higher corn yields than expected, despite drought conditions
which affected southern parts of the state. One farmer said he
is expecting to harvest his best yields ever with fields running
at more than 300 bushels per acre.
Scarce rains over parts of Brazil in September may lead to
less corn being planted this summer, according to an Oct. 2
weather report. Initially there was expected to be 20 to 25 per
cent less corn planted due a drop in prices.
The Philippines Department of Agriculture is urging feed
millers to reduce their purchases of imported feed wheat and
corn to encourage farmers in the country to plant more and prop
up the farm-gate price to boost farmers’ incomes.
Feed barley prices rose 15 cents this week in Alberta to
$4.51 per bushel, according to the Prairie Ag Hotwire. Feed
wheat prices in Alberta and Saskatchewan held steady over the
weak at $4.80 per bushel and $6.12 per bushel, respectively.
