Dow AgroSciences has rolled out an expanded label for its Group 2 herbicide Simplicity, including new registration for both fall and spring application on winter wheat crops.
Simplicity, a cross-spectrum pyroxsulam herbicide, was approved for use against grasses and broadleaf weeds in spring wheat and durum crops in the three Prairie provinces and B.C.’s Peace region in 2008.
The label expansions, announced Wednesday, are all in effect for this spring. Among them are control of yellow foxtail and barnyard grass.
In winter wheat, the product may now be applied in springtime for suppression of downy brome, and in fall to control downy brome.

And in spring wheat, the product may now be used for control of Japanese brome and suppression of downy brome.
Crops including brown mustard, yellow mustard, dry beans and juncea canola are now approved to be seeded 11 months following a Simplicity application, Dow said. Barley, chickpea, flax, lentils, oats, field peas, spring wheat and soybeans were already approved as “follow crop” options.
A new application rate of 53 acres per jug of Simplicity has been added for control of wild oats only (at fewer than 75 plants per square metre), when applied as a tank mix with Attain XC at 53 acres per case, or with Benchmark at 40 acres per case for broadleaf weed control.
Simplicity, at a rate of 40 acres per jug, may now also be tank-mixed with a 60-acre per case rate of Frontline 2,4-D for broadleaf weed control.
Also, the surfactant Agral 90 may now be used when Simplicity is applied in spring wheat without a tank mix partner.
And the adjuvant Merge may now be used with Simplicity in fall and spring applications on winter wheat crops.
