A major Canadian veterinary supply house plans to become the largest in the country by buying another distributor with reach through Quebec and the Atlantic provinces.
CDMV, based at St-Hyacinthe, Que. with warehouse operations in Calgary and Halifax, announced last week it will buy Quebec City-based Distribution Vie et Sante for an undisclosed sum.
CDMV president Denis Huard described the deal as "an exceptional opportunity for CDMV to retain effective and profitable distribution expertise in Quebec and extend our presence across Canada with a range of new services that will complement those we currently offer."

Cattle futures on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange were stronger on Friday, hitting fresh highs to end the week.
"This addition will enable us to consolidate our activities and capitalize on the strengths of the two companies to meet the expectations of our respective customers," Distribution Vie et Sante president Claude Masse said in the same release.
Distribution Vie et Sante’s business is largely in products for professional use by veterinary clinics specializing in companion animals, but also includes products for use in the cattle, swine, horse and poultry sectors.
The deal, which is expected to close on or around Nov. 28, will see CDMV maintain the 24,000-square foot Distribution Vie et Sante warehouse and distribution operations in Quebec City.
CDMV, formed in 1972 as Centre de Distribution de Medicaments Veterinaires, will then become "the only pan-Canadian veterinary product distribution company that also offers a complete range of services intended to help veterinary doctors in the development of their practices."
