Seeding equipment manufacturer Seed Hawk will again directly manage its sales to Australia after its export partner announced plans to exit that market.
Seed Hawk, based at Langbank in southeastern Saskatchewan, said Wednesday it will take over the sales administration of its products in Australia starting Jan. 1, 2012.
Swedish farm equipment maker Vaderstad Verken, which bought a minority stake in Seed Hawk in 2006 and has helped bring its partner’s products to other export markets, “has decided to make a change in their administration of this market,” Seed Hawk said.

Vaderstad’s Australian arm, Vaderstad Australia Pty., is to shut permanently on Dec. 31 this year.
Seed Hawk, which has exported its zero-till equipment to Australia since 2005, said it has secured the services of a “significant importer,” Melbourne-based Landpower, to serve the Australian market.
Landpower, best known as the distributor of Claas tractors and harvesters in the Australian market, “will allow (Seed Hawk) to better serve growers while expanding their market share,” Seed Hawk said Wednesday.
“During the transition period, the company aims to minimize the impact on the Australian dealer network and, ultimately, Australian farmers,” the Saskatchewan firm said.
