The Saskatchewan Watershed Authority has put up another $400,000 to fund farmer groups’ and municipalities’ water control projects.
“We’ve heard from a number of groups such as conservation and development area authorities, watershed associations and rural municipalities about the need for financial support for these projects,” said Nancy Heppner, minister responsible for the Saskatchewan Watershed Authority, in a release Thursday.
“Today we are providing an additional $400,000 to fully share the cost of establishing and maintaining these projects.”
The additional funding will cover costs up to 50 per cent for qualifying projects under the Authority’s Rural Water Control Assistance Program, its Channel Clearing Assistance Program, and its Erosion Control Assistance Program.

Prairie Wheat Weekly: Cash prices mostly higher
Western Canadian cash prices for spring wheat were mostly higher and those for durum were a pinch lower for the week ended Feb. 17. A firmer tone United States wheat complex offered support, as did the Canadian dollar which lost six-tenths of a cent on the week.
“Supporting these locally-developed and locally-managed projects assists producers and rural municipalities control the water adjacent to their property so that they can avoid flooding, reduce erosion and protect their land and infrastructure,” Heppner said.
Application information and forms can be had at the Water Authority’s head office in Moose Jaw, or at its offices in Nipawin, North Battleford, Yorkton, Swift Current and Weyburn, the province said. More details on the programs are also available online.
