A commercially-applied premix of three active seed treatment ingredients should soon be available for wireworm and disease control in wheat and barley.
Syngenta Crop Protection Canada announced Tuesday it has picked up registration for a commercial formulation of thiamethoxam, difenoconazole, and metalaxyl-m, to be called Cruiser Maxx Cereals.
The new product, a combination of the wireworm insecticide Cruiser and the fungicide Dividend XL RTA, is registered for use on spring wheat, winter wheat and barley, the company said.
Syngenta already markets thiamethoxam insecticide under the Cruiser and Actara brands. Difenoconazole is an active ingredient in Dividend, as is metalaxyl-m, which is also an active ingredient in Syngenta brands such as Apron, Helix and Ridomil.

Cruiser Maxx Cereals “will greatly increase the ease of use for commercial application compared to the tank mix of Cruiser 350FS and Dividend XL RTA,” the company said.
The treatment provides “superior application” in terms of seed coverage and reduction of dust-off, and helps prevent pests such as wireworm and common wheat and barley diseases, the company said.
As well, the product “enhances root health and yield potential,” said Scott Ewert, a Syngenta seed care specialist and product lead for Cruiser.
Generally, Ewert said, the benefit from seed treatments in terms of yield “range from an average of an additional two bushels per acre to much greater in the presence of severe pest pressures, such as heavy wireworm infestations.”
