The Ontario Cereal Crops Committee has launched a new web service,GoCereals.ca, to publish annual performance trial data for wheat, oats and barley.

The committee says the new site is an extension of the traditional performance trial fact sheets published by the provincial ministry of agriculture, food and rural affairs.

The cereals committee, in a press release, said it published data for winter wheat and 2007 spring wheat on August 29, to be followed November 8 by oats and barley data. This year’s crop performance trials included 46 winter wheat varieties, 23 spring wheats, 20 oats varieties and 29 barleys.

The committee said the site will allow farmers to sort varieties by geographic “zone” or select individual varieties for up to five head-to-head comparisons. Data includes test weight, winter survival, lodging, height, heading date and disease resistance.

The site will also allow researchers provincewide to record and upload variety performance data throughout the growing season, the committee noted.

The Ontario Oil and Protein Seed Committee previously launched a similar site, GoSoy.ca, to post performance trial data for soybeans and canola.
