Ontario farm funding agency Agricorp says its online acreage reporting system has gone live for farmers’ use.
The agency said in a statement Friday that it now has online acreage reporting available for “most spring-seeded grain and oilseed crops” from May 15 to June 30.
The system is expected to allow Ontario farmers to report their acres 24/7, as well as to report more than one crop at a time, and to receive “immediate” confirmation of their acreage reports.

“Reporting your acres just got easier,” Agricorp said in its statement Friday. Acres reported online are used both for provincial production insurance and for the province’s Risk Management Program (RMP).
Spring-seeded grains and oilseeds that can be reported on the new system include beans (black, cranberry, Japanese/other, kidney, white), canola, corn, mustard, new forage seeding (premium and standard), peanuts, popping corn, soybeans (conventional, natto, tofu, organic), spring grain, spring wheat and sunflowers.
“Minor” crops that can be reported online for the RMP include buckwheat, fababeans, field peas, flax, millet, mustard, popping corn, rye, sorghum, spelt, sunflowers and triticale.
Farmers filing their acreage reports online must make sure to have their customer number, total acres planted and date of completed seeding for each crop, and any acres of any new land being farmed this year, Agricorp said.
Premiums and farmers’ claim payments, if any, are both calculated on a per-acre basis, thus any discrepancy in acreage may reduce a claim payment, Agricorp warned.
Final seeded acres should be reported as soon as a farmer is finished seeding, Agricorp said. The deadline is 10 days after seeding is finished, or by June 30, for reporting.
