A meat cutting and processing operation in northwestern Ontario expects to offer new services to area livestock producers through a province-backed expansion.
Griffiths Country Meats, operating at Oxdrift, Ont., about 15 km west of Dryden, has picked up a $45,500 grant from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corp. and its Enterprises North job creation program.
The company will put the funding toward a new smokehouse and refrigeration unit at its facility, which will allow it to add new services such as sausage processing, the province said.
“By investing in this business, we are helping provide much-needed meat processing services for farmers in that part of northwestern Ontario; strengthening the business and creating new jobs,” provincial Northern Development Minister Michael Gravelle said in a release Wednesday.
The expansion and new services will allow the company to create two new jobs, the province said.
Griffiths Country Meats processes beef, pork, lamb and buffalo. Its current owners have run the operation since 1997.
