Manitoba farmers will soon be able to use an online service-delivery system to register for programs or apply for services offered by the provincial ag department.

The province on Monday rolled out AccessManitoba, a new system meant to allow businesses, entrepreneurs and individuals to register for programs and submit online applications or payments, and to provide “improved customer service.”

The AccessManitoba service is now available for people to apply and register for apprenticeship programs, but is to be expanded in early December to include services delivered by Manitoba Agriculture, Food and Rural Initiatives, the province said.

Soy trading firms to abandon Amazon protection pact in Brazil

Some of the world’s largest soybean traders are preparing to break their agreement to curb deforestation of the Amazon rainforest to preserve tax benefits in Brazil’s top farm state, two people with direct knowledge of the matter told Reuters.

AccessManitoba at that time is also to be rolled out to 11 other program areas including small business development, provincial business gateways and “industry-workforce development.”

The province on Monday also launched BizPaS, a bilingual web-based directory providing information on business programs, services, permits and licences for business activities.

“Offering access to services through a single-window approach will standardize connections between the public and government while ensuring front-line staff have the tools and information they need to better support the public,” provincial Entrepreneurship, Training and Trade Minister Peter Bjornson said in a release.
