The London 2012 Olympics Organizing Committee is pledging to serve “the best of British” food during the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Included in its “Food vision” are the commitment that all dairy products, beef, lamb and poultry must be British and produced under national quality, ethical and welfare standards. In addition, bananas, tea, coffee and sugar will be Fairtrade and traditional British cheese such as cheddar must be British.
The vision document says produce, meat and poultry will produced under the Red Tractor logo, a voluntary national quality standard. Eggs will be free range and produced under the British Lion Mark, another voluntary industry standard. Dairy products will be produced using organic milk.
The organizing committee says it will serve more than 14 million meals across 40 different locations during the 2012 games.
