CNS Canada – Dry conditions persist across Manitoba, with harvest underway in parts, according to the weekly crop report from Manitoba Agriculture released on Aug. 7.
Moisture stress is becoming evident in many crops, with rainfall needed to help the grain fill.
There were also storms across the province with hail damage reported during the weekend. The extent of the damage is still being determined.
Some winter and spring cereals, field peas and forage seed grass has been harvested with average yields.
Haying is still being completed across the province with 40 to 60 per cent of normal yields being reported. Pasture conditions across the province are continuing to deteriorate due to the lack of rain. Many livestock producers are sourcing alternative sources of feed.
There was limited disease and insect concerns during the week. However grasshoppers did cause some damage in parts of the province.
