The new declaration forms that Prairie wheat growers will need to fill out each year starting August 1 are now available online.

The Declaration of Eligibility for the Class form is part of the new declaration system to be introduced by the Canadian grain industry on August 1.

That’s when Prairie farmers will be required to complete the form once a year at every elevator where they deliver wheat, and to verbally declare the class of wheat for each load they deliver, the Canadian Grain Commission said in a release Tuesday.

Pulse Weekly: Lentil prices currently lacking direction

There’s little at the present time to guide cash prices for lentils on the Canadian Prairies, said Marcos Mosnaim of Prairie IX in Toronto.

By signing the form, farmers confirm the wheat they will deliver is eligible for a specific western Canadian wheat class, the CGC said.

The new form replaces a previous declaration that producers were required to complete in accordance with the Ineligible Varieties Protocol, the CGC said. The new form will be sent to producers in the same way as the previous form: by the CGC for producer car deliveries and by grain companies for all other deliveries.

A group including farmers and members of the Western Grain Elevator Association, Inland Terminal Association of Canada, Canadian Wheat Board, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and the CGC developed the new class declaration form, the CGC said.
