Canadian National Railway (CN) plans to close down several stretches of its main line on the Prairies for the weekend starting Friday night, citing “ongoing extreme cold weather.”
CN said in an email Friday (Feb. 28) it will suspend operations from 8 p.m. local time until 8 a.m. Monday morning (March 3) on six subdivisions.
Two connected subdivisions in southern Saskatchewan are affected: the Lampman subdivision, running from Maryfield (about 40 km west of Virden, Man.) to Lampman, about 40 km northeast of Estevan, and the Glenavon subdivision, running from Maryfield west to Regina.

In northwestern Alberta’s Peace region, the suspensions affect the Manning subdivision, running from Roma Junction (east of Grimshaw) north to High Level, and the Meander River subdivision, running from High Level north to Hay River in the Northwest Territories.
The Preeceville subdivision, in eastern Saskatchewan and northwestern Manitoba, will also be shut for the weekend. That line runs from Sturgis, Sask., about 90 km north of Yorkton, to Minitonas, Man., about 15 km east of Swan River.
In the same region, CN will suspend traffic on the Cromer subdivision, from Brandon, Man. to Bienfait, Sask., about 10 km east of Estevan. — AGCanada.com Network
