Agrifood firm Cargill’s Canadian ag retail arm plans to expand its crop input supply coverage in northwestern Alberta’s Peace region.
The company on Monday announced plans to build a new crop input facility on 40 acres about 20 km outside the town of Falher, to start operations this spring.
“Our customers in the area are currently being serviced out of Cargill’s neighbouring Rycroft facility” about 100 km west of Falher, said Mike Witkowicz, Cargill AgHorizons’ farm service group manager, in a release Monday.
“Our local team is energized to know that we will be able to offer growers the customer service and relationship much closer to home, in the eastern Peace River region.”

Falher is about 65 km south of Peace River.
Cargill’s announcement comes about seven months after it began redirecting customers in the southwest of the Alberta Peace to its Rycroft facility.
Winnipeg-based Cargill in June announced it would shut its elevator and crop input outlet at Albright, about 50 km west of Grande Prairie, at the end of July.
Another Prairie grain handler, Winnipeg’s Richardson International, made its own move into the ag input business at Falher last year by buying independent dealership Total Ag Ltd. in February.
