Canadian Financial Close: Loonie, crude oil move slightly

Glacier FarmMedia – The Canadian dollar moved slightly higher on Friday, ending the week on a high note.    

     The loonie settled at US$0.7263 or US$1=C$1.3769, compared to US$0.7260 or US$1=C$1.3774 on Thursday.

     The United States Dollar Index was up 0.03 of a point at 98.37.

     Crude oil prices were lower due to oversupply fears, but losses were limited by growing tensions between the U.S. and Venezuela.

     West Texas Intermediate declined US$0.11 per barrel at US$57.49. Brent crude oil stepped back US$0.09/barrel at US$61.19.

     The TSX/S&P Composite Index lost 133.34 points to close at 31,527.39.

     Gold increased US$17.10 per ounce at US$4,330.10.
