Farmers Edge, an independent precision agriculture consulting firm based in Winnipeg has expanded its laboratory services to include in-season tissue-testing services.
“Farmers Edge Laboratories is now the only agriculture lab in Manitoba offering a full complement of in-season soil and tissue testing, giving growers the expedited results they need to make timely cropping decisions,” says Laura Cross, lab operations manager with Farmers Edge, in a release.
Tissue testing can offer growers insight into a field’s in-season nutrient needs and help troubleshoot problem areas, allowing growers to optimize their yield and inputs. Farmers Edge Laboratories accepts tissue samples of potatoes, oilseeds, pulses, cereals, corn and any other field crops – either directly from customers or as part of services offered through the network of Farmers Edge agronomists across Western Canada.

Turnaround time from sample submission will be three days for a complete tissue analysis, with next-day service on potato petiole (nitrate) only testing. Farmers Edge Laboratories’ services are accredited through the North American Proficiency Testing (NAPT) Program.
Smaller crop
Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada has lowered its estimates of crop harvested areas due to flooding and excessive rain.

Canola harvested area falls to 18.1 million acres from May’s estimate of 18.9 million acres, producing a crop of 12.7 million tonnes.
